How to Control Shutter Speed On top of the DSLR there is a mode dial, on that dial there is 'Tv', Time value, or 'S' for shutter. Once the camera is set to 'Tv' or 'S' it is in shutter priority mode. There is another dial on the right side of the camera, that controls the shutter speed. What Happens? The shutter speed could have a huge affect on a photo. the faster the shutter opens and closes less light is exposed to the sensor making a more still image, a slower shutter creates a more blurred image. Why Change the shutter Speed? The shutter speed could give a real nice affect to an image. A slow shutter speed can cause a more dreamy photograph, a good example is using slow shutter when taking a picture of a beach, the water will have a silky effect. A faster shutter speed is god for capturing action photos, a person running, a car speeding, or people jumping. Notes on Shutter Speed
